Hyderabad witnessed heavy rainfall across the city over the weekend, and on Monday, while the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more showers. The Times of India quoted a warning issued by the IMD on Monday, and stated that heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places across Telangana, for the next 24 hours.

"Humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are blowing over the region and are accelerating the formation of rain-bearing or cumulonimbus clouds in the city. That is the reason Hyderabad is witnessing these showers," Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist with Skymet, told TOI.Skymet Weather reported that Hyderabad recorded a rainfall of 24 mm in 24 hours between Sunday and Monday.

"As of now, the weather will remain pleasant but humid across Hyderabad and the mercury levels will continue to settle on the lower end," the private weather forecaster said.Hyderabad has already surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 111.2 mm, as of June 14, with the state capital registering rainfall of 156.5mm until Monday.

Last Friday, the IMD issued a two-day warning for heavy rain, across Hyderabad and Telangana. The resulting rain that followed, has left many streets in Hyderabad inundated or waterlogged, making traffic a nightmare. According to reports, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has deployed special monsoon teams for emergencies, at the cost of Rs. 29 crore. The Hindu reported that 1,600 workers were part of the 140 emergency teams and were working to solve civic issues during heavy rains.

The IMD also said that a cyclonic circulation prevailing in the Bay of Bengal, combined with a trough extending from Odisha to South Tamil Nadu, has resulted in the heavy rain in some parts of the state. It also said that the south-west monsoon was 'vigorous' across Andhra's Rayalaseema area and also along its coast.
